Bromley Veterans Athletics Club annual run, Sunday 24 March

The Bromley Veterans Athletics Club (BVAC) have their annual five mile cross-country run scheduled for Sunday 24th of March, taking place around Spring Park in West Wickham. The run will be in aid of charity, and all profits will go to support a new cause to be chosen at their AGM on February 28th; last year’s support went to Bromley Meals.

To sign up, go to https://bromleyvetsac.org.uk/Event/OpenRace.

Founded in 1989, BVAC is a friendly club based at The Parklangley Club in Beckenham, aimed at people aged 30 years and over (the current average age is 56) of all abilities, from beginners and slower runners to faster-paced and seasoned athletes.

Everyone runs for enjoyment, but members also participate in a variety of competitive events, organised training sessions and social occasions. Their distinctive blue and gold club vest is regularly seen at local and national races and athletics competitions.

The main nights for club runs are:

TUESDAYS: ~50mins of varied 5-10k routes.

THURSDAYS: Coaching/training sessions; paced runs; ‘Naked’ Run (without watches).

There are sometimes additional runs on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Outside their charity efforts, they’re also committed to aspects of mental health, Health & Safety, and sustainability. In recent years, the club has taken measures to make their Open 5 race more environmentally friendly, such as promotion through a QR code instead of traditional printed flyers, sourcing wooden finishers’ medals from a local manufacturer and ensuring ribbons are also made in the UK rather than printed and imported from elsewhere.

The club is always interested in new members and offers two introductory free runs with the Club, before any commitment to join. Anyone interested in joining or a try-out (or just a chat about the Club), can contact BVAC’s membership secretary at membership@bromleyvetsac.org.uk.
