26 March: find out about the proposal for a Battery Energy Storage System site at Holmshaw Farm

Penso Power are holding a drop in event for people who would like to find out more about a proposed Battery Energy Storage System on land at Holmshaw Farm, Layhams Road. The site will be accessed via Vulcan Way, CR0 9UG.

The event is on:
Tuesday 26 March, 3pm to 7pm
Keston Parish Church,
Church Road, Keston. BR2 6HT

Instinctif, who are working on behalf of Penso Power have said that:

  • The proposal will include 250MW/625Mwh Battery Energy Storage System and associated infrastructure. It will cover an area over 15 acres/6ha of land.
  • The Battery Energy Storage System is within close proximity, and easily connected, to the Rowdown 400kV National Grid electricity substation.

They continue:
“Increasing wind and solar generation helps the environment but it means it’s harder to match electricity supply and demand. Electricity supply varies on a second by second basis based on how sunny and windy it is across the UK. Demand also varies based on consumer and commercial usage patterns. Battery storage solves the problem of matching supply and demand by storing excess wind and solar energy when demand is low and releases it when demand is high or supply is low. This helps lower carbon emissions, stabilises the UK electricity system and reduces our reliance on expensive, imported electricity.

“We are consulting your community on this proposal to develop a Battery Storage System. This event will enable residents and the wider community to review the proposals, ask questions about the plans and leave feedback with the team.”

They’ve said that the exhibition boards will be available online after the event, so if we’re able to, we’ll share the links here.

In the meantime, find out more about Penso Power or see their projects, and view their original planning documents online.
