5:15pm Update: the Police have worked with the travellers and they are leaving Coney Hall now. Thank you to the kind Sylvan Way residents who picked up all the litter left behind.
Residents might be aware that a group of travellers have moved on the Coney Hall Recreation Ground this morning. They had been evicted from a site in Croydon, and now around 20 caravans and cars are parked on the grass, after knocking down a bollard to gain entry. The police were almost immediately on site, and have prevented further caravans arriving. They have the statuary power to remove them, but not the immediate manpower. That is in hand, and it’s expected that the situation will be dealt with quickly – ideally within 24 hours.
If any residents encounter any issues, the police have advised contacting the Safer Neighbourhoods team.
